Producer of XDefiant scolded players: ‘If you don’t like it, don’t play!’

XDefiant, an online FPS game released by Ubisoft with high hopes in May, was staunchly defended by its producer. Mark Rubin, the game’s producer, sparked controversy with a sharp response to a player’s criticism on social media.

XDefiant, offered as a free-to-play FPS by Ubisoft and released after a 3-year development period, quickly faced backlash from players. Amid criticisms of optimization issues, server problems, and character imbalances, an interesting response came from XDefiant and Ubisoft.

Responding to criticism on Twitter from user Charlie Brooks, who claimed the game was rushed to avoid overlapping with the releases of GTA 6 and Black Ops, Mark Rubin responded with a tweet that could be interpreted as ‘if you don’t like it, don’t play.’

XDefiant Season 1 patch notes released

XDefiant Season 1 patch notes: New features, changes, and fixes await, including adjustments to Boosters, Battle Pass progression, and more.

Here is Mark Rubin’s response:
“Was it rushed? No. We have a game engine that is used for the first time in massive online games. The entire infrastructure of the FPS game had to be built from scratch. Call of Duty was also built on the FPS engine ID Tech. Apex was similarly developed using a shooter game engine. But we are developing entirely new technology using an engine designed for a different purpose.

Although our engine is truly great, it requires a lot of work, and with this work, many errors that other engines have already solved come to light. We are not a FPS game that has existed for 20 years. If you liked what we did, you can continue playing the game knowing that you will see improvements and new features in the game. If the game is not for you, no problem, go and play another game.”
